Three generations of family in McLean. Independent, experienced, and ready to help the MCC do even more — without raising your taxes.
"It's your Community Center — and you pay for it."
Martin Smith has called McLean home since 1972 — and now his son's family carries on that tradition here too, with two grandchildren growing up in the community Martin has always loved.
He has served on the McLean Citizens Association Board since 2016, previously as Trustee of the McLean Community Foundation, and has been a civic volunteer throughout his life in McLean. He brings real governance experience — and genuine affection for this community — to his candidacy.
Martin runs as an independent — no slate, no party agenda, no obligations except to the residents of the MCC tax district. He believes the MCC has done wonderful work over its 50+ years and wants to build on that success with practical fresh ideas.
The McLean Community Center is a gem — and Martin wants to help it shine even brighter, making better use of existing resources without increasing the tax burden on residents.
Getting to the MCC shouldn't require a car. Martin wants to work with Fairfax County to improve access to the MCC, the library, and Central Park for all residents — including those who rely on public transit.
A welcoming coffee shop and community garden at the MCC would make it a destination — somewhere neighbors drop in, linger, and connect, not just a place they come and go from.
Parents shouldn't have to miss a concert, class, or community event because they can't find a sitter. On-site childcare options would open the MCC's programs to many more families.
The MCC's dozen meeting rooms host everything from birthday parties to neighborhood association meetings. Better Zoom and A/V support would let groups reach members who can't be there in person.
McLean is more diverse than ever — including many apartment, condo, and senior-facility residents who may not know what the MCC offers. Targeted outreach can bring more neighbors through the door.
You must be a resident of the MCC Tax District (homeowner, renter, or occupant) and at least 18 years old on McLean Day (May 16, 2026).
